one and few of a kind slow fashion, hand made in Bristol.

by hamlet is based upon the principle that the how and why are as important as the what. Each piece is made by Harriet by hand, using reclaimed or organic and ethically sourced materials. Whether bringing new life to unwanted textiles, creating bespoke custom items, or cutting waste with our homewares, by hamlet focus on quality products designed to last.

Using what we have is a creative opportunity, encouraging us to find fun and thoughtful solutions to combat the fashion industry’s waste problem.
Each by hamlet piece is one or few of a kind; hand made to order or created in (super!) small batches of two or three. Working in this way celebrates the beauty of the handmade, the subtle differences a signature of using what we have.

‘fashion shouldn’t cost the Earth’

Never without consideration, every material is carefully chosen with quality, durability, and ethics in mind. We recognise the abundance of materials already in existence on our planet and see not only the importance of choosing to reuse as a priority but the beauty and joy of bringing new life to something that may have otherwise been wasted. When choosing new, we source fabrics with a lower environmental impact such as linen, Tencel, and certified Fairtrade and organic cotton.

Tencel

A versatile cellulose fabric made using sustainably sourced wood pulp, manufactured in a closed-loop process ensuring chemicals used in production are recycled time and time again, not released into the environment.

Linen

One of the most biodegradable fabrics in history, linen, from the Flax plant, is strong, moth resistant, absorbs moisture without holding bacteria, and requires up to 20 times less water than cotton.

Organic cotton

Conventionally grown cotton consumes over 20% of the world's insecticides, despite using less than 3% of total arable land. GOTS certified cotton is the chemical free alternative.

Deadstock

The result of over-production; leftover and over-ordered fabrics and yarns that may have otherwise gone to landfill.

Merino wool

Renewable and biodegradable, this natural insulator helps to regulate body temperature - ensuring comfort throughout the seasons.

Vintage, Reused, Salvaged

Pre-existing garments that have been updated or altered to give them a second life.
